Open data – data.gov.uk

At http://data.gov.uk the UK government shows off their data to the wider public. The idea is that third parti organizations can place this data in new contexts – build apps, visualizations, simulations etc. and in that way help the data come alive.

This is a pioneer project within the semantic web movement, with some involvement of Sir Tim Berners-Lee, who is a strong advocate for open linked data – which he sees a step to unleashing the full potential of the www.

Screenscraping cph.dk for Arrivals mash-up

Made a mash-up using data from cph.dk’s arrivals table to load relevant images from Flickr.
cph.dk does not make this data available as a service so because of crossdomaine policies this app can only run offline.

To make it run online I will have to either negotiate with cph.dk or pay FlightStats a (rather substantial) yearly fee to access the data.

Read more about the idea behind this mash-up and watch a screen cast of the demo

See a test version,  (flight data is loaded from a local XML file)
